We proudly congratulate our CGC members Alexander van Oudenaarden and Albert Heck for being awarded the Spinoza Prize. Albert Heck, isprofessor in the field of mass spectrometryand proteomics. Alexander van Oudenaarden is professor of quantitative biology of gene regulation and director of the Hubrecht Institute.

On November 18th, Ewa Gogola (NKI) was awarded with the CGC poster award 2016. Eva received the award during the KIT meeting on Genomic Instability in Cancer for her poster entitled 'Loss of PARG causes PARP inhibitor resistance in BRCA2-deficient mouse mammary tumors'.

Prestigious American Chemical Society award for Albert Heck
Professor Albert Heck, member of CancerGenomiCs.nl has been honoured by the the American Chemical Society with the ‘ACS Frank H. Field and Joe L. Franklin Award for Outstanding Achievements in Mass Spectrometry’. Heck receives the award for his development of new methods and techniques to identify and study the structure and function of proteins and protein complexes. Visit by the minister of Education, Culture and Science, Mrs Bussemaker
Preceding the opening of the academic year of the Utrecht University, the minister visited 4 gravity projects, among them CancerGenomiCs.nl. Scientific director of the consortium, René Bernards briefly introduced the consortium but the program was merely focused on discussions between young scientist and the minister. CGC.nl researchers introduced the organoid technology and its possibilities for application and patient benefit. Moreover the minister was invited for an introduction into genomics research: isolating DNA. More information is available on uu.nl.

Dutch Documentary: Schaken met de Dood (Roel van Dalen)
De tv-documentaire Schaken met de Dood volgt CGC.nl onderzoekers Jan Schellens en René Bernards (AVL/NKI) in hun zoektocht naar een nieuwe kankertherapie. Ze hopen dat een combinatie van medicijnen beter aanslaat dan individuele geneesmiddelen, een formule die ook zichtbaar veel hoop en verwachtingen schept bij de drie patiënten die de experimentele behandeling ondergaan.

Second ERC-Advanced grant for Hans Clevers
The European Research Council (ERC) awarded prof. Hans Clevers the very prestigious ERC-Advanced grant for the second time.
